On 21st January 2023, The Embassy of India, Kathmandu, organized a 5km Run for LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment) event at the Pashupatinath Temple Complex. This was one of the events held in honor to celebrate the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.
The Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment) was launched in October 2022 in Gujarat at the Statue of Unity by the honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with the presence of UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.
This event was targeted to spread the message of Mission Lifestyle for Environment. Over 1,000 people participated in the event, where participants included locals along with some renown figures such as Pradeep Khadka and Alok Khatri and mountaineers Kalpana Maharjan and Purnima Shrestha.
The winners, both of male and female categories, were felicitated by the honorable Minister Kirati and Ambassador Srivastava. The winners were distributed with LiFE medals made from recycled metal and a small plant.
According to the press release, the plants awarded to the marathon winners have a significant message. It was presented to promote collective action and contributions from families and communities in the fight against climate change. The event supported protecting the planet through a lifestyle where people are more environmentally conscious. It encourages people globally to practice environmentally friendly actions impacting our daily lives.
